The AMGA three day SPI Course is designed for the the recreational climber looking to make the jump in the professional world of climbing instruction.  The 27 hour curiculum is set by the AMGA and is the only UIAA recognized climbing certification in the country.  The two day exam is for those who have completed the SPI course and have developed the skills taught in the course and are ready to be examined on their professional instruction skills.

Beginner Class

This introductory class is designed to be a first outdoor climbing experience for all ages and abilities. Learn the basics of rock climbing including climbing technique, rappelling and belaying. Our AMGA certified guides will ensure guests walk away with a new understanding of climbing gear, communication skills and Leave No Trace climbing ethics.

Intro to Trad Climbing

This class will teach the most up to date trad leading skills. Our curriculum focuses on gear placements, anchoring and belay techniques. Students will have a chance to place gear and receive feedback from our AMGA certified guides. Other skills including advanced rappelling and crack climbing technique will also be introduced.

Our AMGA certified guides will help you develop the necessary skills to tackle bigger objectives. Learn how to make efficient transitions in multi-pitch terrain as well as the skills to get back down safely.

Anchoring

We start out with reviewing the principles of sound traditional gear placements.  The goal of the course is to have participants building their own strong and secure anchors by the end of the course.  Lessons are customized to your level or experience so you can retain as much knowledge as possible.

Big Wall and Aid

Learn the skills to climb big walls on your own.  This class is suggested in a two day format because there is too many skills to cover in one day.  We cover aid climbing techniques, jumaring techniques including lower outs, and hauling techniques.  Our guides are big wall veterans, with resumes including big walls in Patagonia, one day ascents of El Capitan, and Half Dome.

Everyday Self Rescue

This course is for the climber who is starting to get out on their own either in single pitch or multi-pitch terrain.  We focus on the most likely rescue scenarios that occur in climbing and how to effectively mitigate those situations. Some topics covered are: Lost belay devices, ropes not reaching rappel stations, retrieving stuck ropes.

We teach our classes in the following climbing areas:

Lee Vining, June Lake, Mammoth Lakes, Bishop and Lone Pine.  Location of the class will vary depending on weather and participants.

Classes are $200 with three or more participants. We do our best to fill the classes but in the case of less than three people prices are $275 per person with two participants, and $500 for a private one on one class.

Climbing shoes, harness, helmet, and belay devices are included in the price.  If you have your own equipment please come prepared with harness, helmet, ATC style belay device, comfortable climbing shoes, a small backpack that will fit shoes and your water and food for the day.

Most classes take between 6-8 hours so be prepared to be out for the day. Weather can very from cold and windy to extremely hot day to day so pack accordingly.
