Course Overview

Avalanche rescue field training

AIARE Avalanche Rescue is a one-day intensive course for those who travel in the backcountry. Designed to be retaken regularly, this course keeps your rescue skills sharp and ensures you are prepared for the worst-case scenario. You will learn how to effectively use your beacon, probe, and shovel while managing a rescue scene.

Winter backcountry terrain in the Sierra
Prerequisites

Participants must be able to travel in winter backcountry terrain on skis, a splitboard, or snowshoes. No prior avalanche education is required, though it is a perfect complement to AIARE 1.

Required Equipment

Avalanche transceiver (3-antenna), probe (300cm recommended), and metal shovel. Backcountry travel gear (skis/splitboard/snowshoes), winter clothing layers, and a day pack with food and water.
